Self-Lay
If a development requires a new water main and / or new water connections, this new infrastructure can be installed by an approved Self-Lay Provider (SLP) rather than by the local Water Company directly. This is known as Self-Lay.
The Self-Lay process can assist developers complete their installation of new infrastructure as Self-Lay Providers such as Bregan MainsFlow Ltd can often install the required water mains and service connections with more flexibility than the local Water Company. We can save the developer both time and money by installing at a discounted price compared with that of the Water Company and be more flexible with installation dates to collaborate with the developers and their onsite logistics/build plan. We can assist with all aspects of the self-lay process from initial enquiry and guidance, through to completing the application, installing the infrastructure, commissioning the new mains and finally completing all service connections. Throughout the scheme we will liaise with the Water Company to ensure all documentation and notifications are submitted correctly.
The self-lay process involves the following stages, all of which we can assist with:
- Pre Development Enquiry
- Application
- Design of scheme
- Installation of new mains
- Commissioning of new mains (pressure testing and chlorination)
- Back-to-Back Connection – to liven up the new mains
- Service Connections
- As Laid Drawings
Accreditation
To be a registered self-lay provider we must complete a rigorous training and assessment procedure to ensure we carry out works to the highest levels and the 22 Water Companies nationwide are confident we can install infrastructure on their behalf, that they will later adopt as their own. We carry the WIRS (Water Industry Registration Scheme) Accreditation which is recognised by all Water Companies and WaterUK, confirming we are qualified to install new water infrastructure on their behalf and make connections into their existing parent mains.
